Losing Track of Time? See Your Symptoms as Energy Shifts

I discovered this week that I am slipping in and out of ‘time’ (as we know it). It is as though from one moment to the next the flow that used to be there has a larger gap where things get ‘fuzzy’—this creates a major shift in one’s perception of time and can be very confusing, disorienting and ungrounding.

Thursday a client arrived early for a session while I was on a Zoom call. Hearing and sensing her arrival, I wasn’t positive of who it was, though I had a rough sense of my daily schedule. When I went to greet her, the client was not who I expected, and in trying to verify with my schedule – I was pulled ahead of myself by a week!

She arrived a little ungrounded, having discovered she forgot to bring a mask and was making do with a towel wrapped around her face. Now both of us were out of sorts and fighting to make sense of timing. We were both confused, ungrounded and apologizing. We did figure it out by slowing down and becoming present.

That morning was one example of how we are having a hard time keeping track of the moments when the old energy (who and what we were) is getting displaced by the new energy (who and what we will be). The physical world around us, along with our bodies, are shifting. What we used to ground to (how we defined or experienced our placement in a physical world) no longer exists.

This process of energetic shift—especially in how it effects our physically dense bodies—can be very disorienting. You are likely experiencing symptoms, so I’ll break them down and give you suggestions on how to address them! Feel free to add to this list from your own experience, or from what you are seeing in others or in your clients.

Physical (P) Symptoms of Shift

  • Low energy (doing less and feeling as though you have worked hard)

  • Feeling tired (needing naps, breaks, possibly having no motivation)

  • Not sleeping (trouble falling asleep or going to bed at a decent time and/or trouble staying asleep, or waking unrested)

  • Aches/pains

  • Feeling very hungry or not wanting to eat (sometimes a moment-to-moment experience, or not being inspired by food, even when hungry)

  • Digestive changes (even subtle)

Emotional (E) Symptoms of Shift

  • Feeling sad (the weight of the ‘wrong’ of the world, or your own grief)

  • Big emotional shifts/swings (going from one extreme to the other)

  • Anger (comes from nowhere, has a depth and power not expected and/or can disappear quickly)

  • Anxiety – feeling overwhelmed (usually a mental/spiritual symptom unless triggered by energetic shifts alone)

Mental (M) Symptoms of Shift

  • Foggy headed (losing details/time, or the ability to process thoughts)

  • Gaps in awareness of time (time seems to be moving quickly, or standing still)

  • Feeling clearer and making connections quickly at times

  • Jumping to conclusions and/or not having desired communication outcomes

  • Feeling anxious and/or negative

Spiritual (S) Symptoms of Shift

  • Feeling out of time and space (like you don’t relate or belong)

  • Having lots of dreams (chaotic or disturbing, or give insight)

  • Waking not feeling rested – as though you were ‘working’ all night

  • Fear or anxiety triggered from unknown source(s)

  • More in touch with your intuition/higher knowing

  • Feeling a lack of clarity/insight

  • Feeling overwhelmed or that it is all ‘too much, too fast’

  • Feeling out of body or disconnected to your physical self/world

How do we address great change and times of transition (as identified through these symptoms) when all around us is energetically/vibrationally undergoing transformation?

  1. Determine which symptoms to address and identify the category (PEMS)

  2. Refer to the next chart of approaches and take action

  3. STICK WITH IT! This is a progression. Change, especially outer-world change (as opposed to personal, inner-world change) is seldom anchored instantaneously. Create a self care habit.

Physical Approaches to Balance (symptom reduction)

  • Be in nature! We are physical beings living on and nurtured by a physical planet. This connection is essential for our healthiest physical expression.

  • Eat healthy! Plant-based is often best, but the world supplies what we need. Make sure it is organic, balanced, whole food to allow your body to express optimally.

  • Hydrate. We are water-based. Good, clean water is like oil to an engine!

  • Rest/sleep. Give your body/mind/spirit a rest.

  • Exercise. Oxygen exchange (muscles, sweat, exhale) releases what we no longer need and brings to the surface what we need to consciously process.

  • Address breakdowns in the system. View your physical symptoms as messages about where attention needs to be focused in order to move toward greater health (presence, stability).

Emotional Approaches to Balance

  • Cry if you need to. Again, we are water-based (in a physical sense) and water carries messages. Crying is a release that washes the system.

  • Allow all emotions (but not necessarily through taking an action) and feel what you are holding onto in order to process/release.

  • Nurture yourself. Allow yourself to feel good and to be surrounded by love (friends/family)!

  • Ask for and receive help if you need it.

  • Give yourself time to process. In other words, don’t rush the process, stay present to it.

  • Create balance between all your expressions; physical, emotional, mental and spiritual (PEMS).

Mental Approaches to Balance

  • Allow down time from DOING to balance your day with BEING.

  • Do a morning check-in to bring all of your energies into the present.

  • List making or record keeping can be helpful for tracking.

  • Balance expectations with fun! Example: Balance business meetings with meetings with family/friends, business reading with fiction, etc.

  • Slow down reactions when you also feel emotional. Notice the moment, or the thought driving you toward a reaction.

  • Create positive statements (mantras) for yourself as reminders and as reaction disrupters. Examples: “This isn’t about me.” “I can breathe through this.” “If I don’t know what to do, I can do nothing now.”  (Shorter statements are better as they are easier to remember and repeat.)

Spiritual Approaches to Balance

  • Keep a journal of triggers and look for patterns that speak to the growth work you are doing.

  • Keep a daily calendar to remind you of time in the physical world.

  • Set intentions or expectations of the energy before sleep or meditation. Examples: “I will wake inspired and rested.” “Help me process and release these old feelings.” “I will gain clarity about this while I rest.”

  • BE HERE NOW! Observe yourself and the world around you.

  • Pray, ask your higher knowing self, or the Divine to assist/communicate with you.

  • Focus on LOVE within and outward, or the acts of love in the world.

  • Give gratitude – practice giving thanks.

We are beings that can’t easily overlook how others’ behaviors, the world of humans around us, influence and impact us. In other words, we have a hard time NOT making everything all about US.

The approach of separating symptoms by types of expression (physical, emotional, mental, spiritual) can help us address what we can at a time when much of what is happening seems out of our control. This approach is the basis of learning to stay fully present and of initiating excellent self care.

Give Back Love!

As we journey through this energetic transformation, both personally and collectively, remember as you start to feel more solid, present and grounded, to give back in some way. Generosity from personal growth is what makes the WHOLE better through anchoring the expression of LOVE in the world.

May THAT force be with you!

Many blessings,
Janna
