How Recognizing Synchronicity Can Lead to Unexpected Joy
One of the most powerful tools in energy healing is recognizing synchronicity, or those meaningful ‘coincidences’ that remind us to pay attention.
As an energy medicine practitioner, I often see how the universe guides us through unseen threads of connection. And sometimes, those threads lead to four-legged friends, even when we least expect it.
Back in February, I shared about the loss of my dog, Jaxson. He was incredibly special. He had endured so much trauma in his life, yet still embodied unconditional love. At the time, the thought of adopting another dog didn’t even cross my mind.
I also got used to my own routine. I could leave the house at the drop of a hat, without having to worry about when I needed to get home to feed Jaxson or take him out. There is a certain freedom in not having a dog. And, as I’m allergic to cats, I had no plans to bring another pet into my home. I figured that was that.
But it seemed the universe had other plans, and it was up to me to notice its message.
Not long after, I went to lunch with my sister. Jaxson’s passing was still too painful for her to talk about—she has a dog about the same age. My sister has always been someone who needs a dog by her side, and living out in the country, she has the space to care for more than one.
She’d been browsing the site of a local rescue, hoping to give another dog a home, and encouraged me to do the same.
“Just go look at the dogs to see if any of them speak to you,” she said.
The next day, I was perusing the internet and ended up searching for the rescue. On their page, I saw a 7-month-old black lab mix who reminded me of a dog I once had.
Was I really meant to have another dog?
I emailed the rescue to ask a few questions. I never heard back from them, so I tried to move on.
It was for the best, I decided. My summer was busy, so I really didn’t see how a dog would fit into the mix anyway.
Still, I found myself returning to the site, but the dog was no longer there. She must have been adopted, and it wasn’t meant to be. At least that’s what I thought.
But moments of synchronicity have a habit of showing up when you’re least expecting them.
A month after I first emailed the shelter about the lab puppy, I had a dream. I was driving, and Jaxson was sitting in the front seat, which we never allowed in real life. Jaxson told me that he was fine and that I should consider getting another dog. He wanted me to have a companion.
The following day, I was running errands when I got a call. It was from the rescue.
They asked me if I was still interested in Lola J, the black lab.
“She’s still there?” I asked.
“Yes!” they answered.
Now I had a choice.
Pragmatically, I didn’t see how adopting a dog was the right choice. I was going on vacation in two weeks and had already gotten rid of Jaxson’s things. Dogs are expensive, and my house was clean. I could have kept coming up with all the reasons why I shouldn’t get a dog.
And yet, how could I ignore the synchronicity—the small, meaningful moments that kept pointing me toward a dog at this time? And not just any dog, but Lola J.
I didn’t drive home. I drove to Joplin, met Lola J, and brought her home that day.
Since bringing Lola J home, I’ve definitely had a few “what did I do?” moments. The vet explained that 7-8 months can be a challenging training time, and we had a lot of ground to cover. We encountered a few hiccups with potty training, and she was afraid of everything and barked constantly.
It hasn’t been smooth sailing, but I’ve been doing regular energy work with her. Jaxson’s memory is very much alive in our process. I’d learned to train him energetically and really integrate the techniques I learned through two levels of Healing Touch for Animals with Carol Komitor.
Healing Touch for Animals is a safe and gentle approach to assess an animal's energy system and help them clear, balance, and strengthen those systems. Just as it helped me with Jaxson, it has greatly helped me make sure Lola J feels safe and settles into her new home.
In the two months I’ve had her, she’s stopped barking all the time and has even grown confident enough to go outside by herself and explore. It makes all the “what did I do” moments worth it. I now have a very sweet little companion that will grow into a very good dog and company for many years.
I’m so glad the universe knew what I needed, sent me signs, and that I was able to pay attention and listen. It took a powerful moment of synchronicity for me to realize that Lola J was meant to be my dog.
Have you noticed moments of synchronicity in your own life lately?
The universe is always speaking to us, whether through dreams, conversations, timing, or intuition. If you haven’t heard anything lately, give yourself permission to slow down. The signs are there. Joy is already on its way.
