Four Pillars of a Strong Energy Medicine Practitioner

I’m not sure why I had trouble writing October’s blog. I started three different times, each with a different theme. None of them felt right. I decided to use the “Glass of Water” technique taught in the Intuition class to help me focus on what I wanted to share. The “Glass of Water” technique is where you set an intention at night, drink half the water, and set the same intention the next morning to drink the other half of the water.

The next morning was one of those days that I just didn’t feel like doing anything. I played pickleball for three solid hours, then went home. The house was clean, laundry caught up, nowhere to go; and I didn’t want to think about the blog, so I decided to binge some TV shows. I chose season three of Ted Lasso. If you haven’t seen it, it’s a show where an American football coach is hired to move to London and coach an English football (soccer) team. It is a comedy and has an uplifting theme throughout. The goal is to coach the team members to be better humans, which, in turn, makes them better team players. The show delicately handles social justice issues, such as racism, immigration, mental health, and LGTBQ, with grace.

As I was watching, Ted discussed the four principles of good team members, which were conditioning, versatility, awareness, and … He left the fourth principle to be announced later. That’s when I received that nudge, the inner knowing, the intuition. This is the topic for October. I saw Ted’s principles as being congruent with healthy energy medicine practitioners. Much of what is discussed in Ted Lasso's episodes is what we teach through EMS courses.

Conditioning

I see this as self-care. As an Energy Medicine practitioner, the quality of personal self-care reflects in the quality of healing a practitioner can facilitate for another. Self-care is what people do for themselves to establish and maintain health and to prevent and deal with illness. It is a broad concept encompassing hygiene (general and personal), nutrition (type and quality of food eaten), lifestyle (sporting activities, leisure, etc.), environmental factors (living conditions, social habits, etc.), socio-economic factors (income level, cultural beliefs, etc.), and self-medication. Self-care can improve your physical health, reduce stress and anxiety, boost your self-esteem, protect your mental health, and lead to better relationships. Practicing self-care helps the person establish boundaries and learn self-compassion. It is very important to prioritize our own care to provide us with the energy we need to help care for others. If a practitioner is overworked, overstimulated, or overbooked - it is much harder to be available for our family and clients. Caring for ourselves is worthwhile in the short and long term.

Versatility

I see this as following the energy. EMS teaches energy techniques. More importantly, EMS teaches the EM practitioner to accurately assess their clients. Once the assessment is complete, the practitioner uses the information garnered from the clients, the assessment of the hara, chakras, and meridians, and the practitioner’s intuition. With this full assessment, the practitioner discerns the most appropriate set of technique(s) to provide for the client. Practitioners are also taught how to empower their clients to be a partner in the healing journey. The experienced practitioner allows the client to drive the session within boundaries. This means the practitioner is a team member, not the paternalistic overseer of the session. This allows the client and practitioner to be flexible with the treatment.

Awareness

I see this as the Third Eye, the Brow chakra. This is understanding the energetic assessment, learning to access intuitive messages, and continuing education as an energy practitioner. A practitioner who has completed all coursework through EMS is able to easily assess the Hara, Chakras, and Meridians and then appropriately interpret the results to best assist the client’s healing. The Intuition class helps a person develop their intuitive skills. Continuing to learn is an expectation for professional energy practitioners.

Believe

The fourth principle shared in the last episode of Tedd Lasso is Believe. The word Believe plays a huge part throughout the show as it is displayed prominently and referred to many times in all three seasons. I think, as energy practitioners, we do believe. We believe the work we do is healing. We believe the work we do helps us personally, helps others directly and indirectly, as well as helps heal our Mother Earth. Energy Therapy 2B - ET2B class provides a lot more insight into how energy work is beneficial to the client, practitioner, and the planet.

Ted Lasso describes the four principles to be used to build a team. As Energy Medicine practitioners, we, too, are a team. We may work individually, but those who study with EMS are part of a team of professionals with the goal of peace on Earth. We became a team through attending classes, participating in networking meetings, sharing experiences, etc. We come together to learn from one another and become better because of each other. I believe EMS will continue to grow and be known as a professional, ethical Energy Medicine program.

I invite you to become part of the EMS team.
